Thank you to everyone who has emailed information regarding the very complex and seemingly illusive process of obtaining a permit to rally or march in Denver.
We have now devoted a significant amount of time researching this issue, reading the applicable statutes, and attempting to contact Denver officials. We think we have begun to understand the process, but, are keeping at our research and information gathering, so, may update this information at a later date. We are, however, relatively confident that at this point we have not missed any deadline to apply for a permit. Here's what we have ascertained thus far:
The Mayor of Denver has declared the time frame surrounding the convention dates an "Extraordinary Event" requiring an Extraordinary Event Permit. A special process has been established to apply for this Permit. The Permit application indicates that we have until August 11, 2008 to submit an Extraordinary Event Request Form--NOTE, this appears to be NOTHING MORE than a REQUEST to eventually be able to apply for specific rally or parade permits (what we will call, the "sub-permits"), but, here's where it gets REALLY fun in our opinion...
Once we have submitted an Extraordinary Event Request, we will supposedly be notified within 5 business days of the acceptance or denial of the Request. If accepted, we get to apply for the specific rally or parade sub-permits. If these sub-permit applications are approved-- again, supposedly we will be notified of acceptance or denial within 5 business days--then it appears our Extraordinary Event Permit will actually be issued. We are not completely sure this is the entire process as the application forms and the website contain a variety of seemingly conflicting and thoroughly confusing information.
Please fell free to check out the site here, maybe you'll have more luck unraveling this mysterious and convoluted process:

Once you have become thoroughly frustrated, as we are, with the information provided regarding the Permit process, you may want to check out the myriad of lawsuits filed by the ACLU in relation to these issues, here the link:

The Permit issue is on the agenda for our New York City meeting this Sunday, and as we get more information and a better understanding of how best to proceed, we will post an update.
We hope this information is helpful in some way.

*FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*
WASHINGTON -- At a press conference today the Democratic Leadership
Council (DLC) announced that Chicago, Ill. will be the site of its 12th
annual National Conversation to be held June 28-30, 2008.
DLC Founder and CEO Al From was joined at today's press conference by
Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, who will serve as honorary chair of the
event, as well as U.S. Rep. and House Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm
Emanuel (D-Ill.-5).
With the leadership of Mayor Daley and DLC Chair Harold Ford, Jr., this
year's National Conversation will be a forum to discuss and debate the
best ideas for tackling America's greatest challenges.
From noted the unique opportunity that Democrats have this year to lead
the nation with new ideas. "2008 presents Democrats with an incredible
opportunity: the chance to build an enduring political and governing
majority with control of both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue and a majority
of statehouses and mayoralties across the country," said From. "To take
full advantage of that opportunity, we will need to offer bold and
innovative ideas for tackling the big challenges facing our nation and
to govern effectively once in office. That will be the focus of this
year's National Conversation in Chicago. Elected Democrats from all
levels of government will compare notes about ideas that work and how to
put them into action."
Chicago's own Mayor Richard Daley spoke about the exchange of ideas
which the Conversation will bring to the city. "For 12 years, the
Democratic Leadership Council has been providing public officials,
national leaders and interested citizens with innovative and
straightforward ideas for moving our nation forward. I'm proud and happy
that the DLC will be bringing its annual conference to our city later
this summer," Daley said. "I look forward to participating in that
conference and offering some of the ideas and programs we have pursued
that might help other urban areas. I know that other members of our
community -- from business, labor and academia -- will be eager to
participate, as well."
Rep. Emanuel added, "As we continue to work for change in Washington, we
are reminded that good policy makes good politics. The hundreds of
national, state and local leaders who will attend this year's DLC
National Conversation in Chicago will be sharing the lessons they've
learned from their successes in solving some of the greatest challenges
that face our nation."
Chicago was chosen to host the 2008 DLC National Conversation because of
its unique position on the national political stage. It is the largest
city in the Midwest -- a region that may well serve as the battleground
that chooses the next president. Both Democratic presidential candidates
have roots in Chicago: Senator Barack Obama represents Illinois in the
Senate; Senator Hillary Clinton was born and raised in the city's
suburbs. Today, Chicago faces a microcosm of the challenges which
national leaders will need to tackle in the months and years to come:
keeping Americans safe; ensuring we can compete and win in the global
economy; creating a hybrid economy; promoting families and values;
holding government accountable; and ending poverty for all who work.
The National Conversation is the DLC's premier annual conference,
bringing together hundreds of elected officials from across the country
to compare notes, exchange ideas and discuss innovative governing
strategies. Last year, the DLC hosted more than 300 elected officials in
Nashville, Tenn., and expects hundreds to join them this summer in the
Windy City.
/The Democratic Leadership Council seeks to promote debate within the
Democratic Party and the public at large about national and
international policy and political issues. For additional information,
